Azhikode raised voiced against communalism, says Sunil P. Elayidom

Sunil P. Elayidom discusses the confusion between 'Dharma' and religion, emphasizing the importance of Guru Dharma.
Writer and orator Sunil P. Elayidom said here on Saturday (January 18) that nowadays the term ‘Dharma’ tended to be linked to or confused with religion.
He was delivering the Sukumar Azhikode Memorial Lecture on the theme ‘Guru Dharma and Sanatana Dharma’. The lecture was organised under the aegis of the Ernakulam Public Library. He said Azhikode had raised his voice against communalism and rued that “Guru Dharma is not in our hearts while there are thousands of his statues and institutions in his memory.”
Citing scholars, Mr. Elayidom said that the first time the term Sanatana Dharma was referred to was in Buddhist texts and not in Hindu texts.

The draft policy for “Responsible Digital Use Among Students”, released on Monday by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, has recommended that parents set structured routines with clear screen-time rules and prioritise privacy, safety, and open conversation with children on digital well-being.
