Distribution of uniforms to the newly admitted anganwadi children in the district commenced with Collector R. Sukumar distributing the dress, books and other educational aids to the children in the anganwadi at Muthoor near Palayamkottai on Wednesday.
Dr. Sukumar said over 23,400 children had been admitted in 1,261 anganwadis in the district for imparting preschool education to the kids.
Besides ensuring their nutritional status by feeding them with nutritious food, the kids’ height and weight are being checked every month and appropriate action is being taken based on the findings of the monthly check-up
Fortified biscuits are being given to the children to avert malnutrition. Moreover, parents, particularly the mothers, of those children are properly counselled at regular intervals by qualified dieticians.
“We are taking these steps to ensure the health of the children and save them from malnutrition. Hence, the parents should cooperate with the anganwadi workers and follow their instructions,” Dr. Sukumar said.
