Twenty students from the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Keezhvelur, had a rare opportunity to witness the Lok Sabha proceedings and interact with Speaker Om Birla during their visit to the Parliament House in New Delhi on Thursday.
The educational visit was facilitated by the Nagapattinam district administration in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), following the students’ victory in the district-level Youth Parliament Competition held in January.
Organised under the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” initiative, the Youth Parliament Competition aimed at promoting democratic awareness and women empowerment among students across various colleges in the district.
A.J.S. Jyonsia, a third-year B.Sc. (Agri.) Hons. student, said, “We could witness the Lok Sabha proceedings for a brief time. It was an inspiring moment. I felt a new kind of pride for our majestic nation and a deep sense of responsibility after seeing leaders from across India voicing their views.”
B. Manikandan, another third-year student, described the visit as a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience. “The Parliament museum, the historical paintings, visiting the old Parliament building, and seeing our leaders in action on the Lok Sabha floor — everything was grand. We are truly thankful to our college and the district administration for making this possible,” he said.
The student delegation, comprising second- and third-year students, was accompanied by two faculty members. Nagapattinam MP V. Selvaraj welcomed the group on the Parliament premises and coordinated their visit, including an interaction with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in his chambers.
