The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in Hubballi-Dharwad, featuring flag hoisting, cultural programs, and community engagement.
The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with fervour in the twin cities of Hubballi Dharwad on January 26 with people holding various programmes as part of the celebrations, apart from the official celebrations organised by government agencies, taluk and district administrations.
As has been the practice, Municipal Commissioner Rudresh Ghali unfurled the national flag at the Idgah Maidan in the presence of several council members. Celebrations were held separately at the municipal corporation, Hubballi taluk panchayat and Hubballi Rural tahsildar’s office, and other government departments.
At the taluk-level Republic Day celebrations in Nehru Stadium, Hubballi Urban Tahsildar Mahesh Gaste unfurled the national flag. He urged the youth to acquire knowledge and represent India on the global stage. He appealed to citizens to follow the principles and ideals enshrined in the Constitution and pass on the legacy of a great India to the next generation. “Instead of asking what the country has done for us, we should ask what we have done for the country,” he said.
Presiding over the programme, MLA Mahesh Tenginakai said that the Constitution had enabled a common man to rise to the highest office of the land. Referring to the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047, he said several welfare schemes, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, have been implemented to achieve this objective.
KSDB Chairperson and MLA Prasad Abbayya said Dr. Ambedkar had given the nation a great Constitution. He noted that Republic Day celebrations were held to showcase the country’s military strength and cultural heritage. Describing the Constitution as the guiding text of the nation, he stressed the need for secularism, cooperation, and respect for all religions. He expressed concern over increasing divisions in the name of caste and religion, and said India’s strength lies in its unity in diversity.
Students who excelled in the SSLC examinations were felicitated. Students from various schools and colleges in the city presented cultural programmes.
