
5 killed, 11 pilgrims injured after mini-bus rams into parked truck in Karnataka

According to the police, the truck was parked on the left side of the road after a tyre got punctured . The driver was changing the tyre when the mini-bus hit the truck from behind.
Five persons, including a 2-year-old boy, were killed and 11 people were injured after a mini-bus rammed into a stationary truck near Sonna Cross in Jewargi taluk of Kalaburagi district in Karnataka on April 5.
The deceased — Malanabi Mehboob Gaddanakere (52), Mehboobi Usman Saab (53), Priyanka Manjunath (13), Mehboob Usman Saab (29) and Wajid Mehboob (2) — are all natives of Bagalkot.
According to police, the mini-bus had 31 passengers, who were travelling to the historic Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah Shareef in Kalaburagi.
The accident occurred when the mini-bus hit a truck that was parked on the roadside to change a flat tyre. The mangled remains of the mini-bus depicted the intensity of the collision.
Of the five victims, four were killed on the spot and one succumbed to injuries while being shifted to a hospital. The 11 injured persons were shifted to Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS). The driver of the mini-bus reportedly fled the scene.
Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu visited the spot. All the bodies were shifted to the Jewargi taluk hospital.
A case has been registered at Nelogi police station.
