487 candidates selected at job fair in Hubballi

Around 70 companies participated in the job fair. A total of 1,820 candidates had registered. Of these, 487 were selected and 670 were shortlisted.

The Rotary Club of Hubballi and the District Employment Exchange Centre organised a job fair in KLE Society’s P.C. Jobin College in Hubballi, on April 27.

MLC S.V. Sankanur inaugurated the event. He claimed to have been instrumental in organising job fairs in Gadag, Dharwad, and Haveri districts for 10 years. “I had promised this before my election. I have kept my promise,” he said.

“Unemployment is not just the problem of India. It is a global issue that needs immediate attention. Government recruitment has slowed down, as appointments are being made only after serving officers retire. For example, there are over 2.6 lakh posts vacant in Karnataka. Unfortunately, they are not being filled. Also, industrialisation is not happening evenly. There are fewer industries coming to rural areas. Neither the Centre nor the State Governments are establishing new industries. It is the private sector that is investing. But their investments are focussed on Bengaluru. We need higher industrial investments in districts, especially in northern Karnataka,” he said.

He urged the youth to stop aspiring for government jobs. They should turn entrepreneurs and create jobs. They should utilise the various government facilities and opportunities being offered to set up industries and businesses, he said.

MLA Mahesh Tenginakai said job fairs are being organised in rural areas by various Central Government agencies, and private agencies would help locals find employment near their place of residence. “However, youth should turn entrepreneurs,” he said.
