The Karnataka government has allocated ₹9,000 crore towards white-topping of 1,682 km of road in Bengaluru.
Disclosing this to Legislative Council in response to a question from Congress member H.P. Sudham Das, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Thursday (March 13, 2025) said that out of the 1,682 km stretch of sub-arterial roads of which work on 196 km has commenced already.
Detailing the government’s effort to address the traffic issues in Bengaluru, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the DPR of the 40 km tunnel road project is ready, the government has approved the project and tender will be called immediately. “There is no alternative to tunnel road.”
He also said that the government is building 300 km of new 50-feet wide buffer roads in the city along the storm water drains, especially in areas such as ITPL, R.R. Nagar and Thanisandra at the cost of ₹3,000 crore. “We are also planning to issue TDRs to build roads.”
Among other efforts, he listed the PRR works at a cost of ₹27,000 crore and 109 km of double-decker roads in the metro alignment at a cost of ₹9,000 crores that are envisaged to address traffic issues.
