Woman caught attempting to smuggle SIM cards into Bengaluru Central Prison

A woman was arrested for attempting to smuggle three SIM cards into Bengaluru Central Prison, concealed in her body.

Security staff at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison caught a 27-year-old woman red-handed while she was attempting to smuggle three SIM cards into the prison during a routine inspection on Thursday (March 26).

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. at the prison’s general visitors’ section. The accused, identified as Ritika Rai, had arrived at the facility after obtaining a visitor pass to meet an undertrial prisoner, Farsan Khan.

During the security check, prison staff grew suspicious and conducted a thorough physical inspection. It was found that the woman had concealed prohibited items in a private part of her body. Upon examination, officials recovered three 5G SIM cards from her possession.

A report was then submitted by the on-duty staff, and the seized items were documented in the presence of senior officials. The materials were later handed over to the authorities concerned for further action.

A case has been registered against the woman under Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act, 2022, along with other relevant provisions. Authorities have initiated further legal proceedings.

Ten phones and four SIM cards have been seized during routine inspections since March 23. Separate FIRs have been registered against undertrials from whom the phones were seized for further investigation.
