BJP MLA Suresh Kumar rejects IPL tickets, condemning VIP culture and entitlement politics among legislators, sparking broader opposition.
Former Minister and BJP MLA S. Suresh Kumar rejected free Indian Premier League match tickets offered to legislators, taking a strong stand against what he called “VIP culture” and “politics of entitlement".
While many cutting across party lines, including Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok, demanded tickets, Mr. Kumar criticised the practice as damaging to the credibility of politicians/legislators and said such privileges cutting across party lines, including under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, had continued.
State BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra and BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, have also opposed the distribution of IPL passes.
Following the demand for free tickets by legislators in the legislature, KSCA has decided to issue two tickets each to legislators.
In a press statement, Mr. Kumar said, “That this VIP culture and politics of entitlement thrives cutting across party lines in the regime headed by self-declared socialist Chief Minister is certainly appalling.
“It is for this very reason the image, credibility and reputation of the politicians as a class have nose-dived in the eyes of the people,” he said.
