Union Minister Kishan Reddy assures Telangana has no fuel shortages, urging public to ignore misleading social media rumors.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy said that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or cooking gas in Telangana. He was speaking after a review meeting with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and dealer associations on Saturday to assess the current situation in the State. He also urged the public not to be misled by rumours circulating on social media.
Mr. Reddy said the Union government is taking measures to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability across the country. He noted that efforts are underway to strengthen domestic refining capacity so that a larger share of India’s fuel requirements can be met internally. At the same time, the government continues to import petroleum products to address any shortfall.
The Minister added that the Centre remains in constant engagement with global leaders amid evolving international conditions and is committed to ensuring that citizens do not face fuel shortages. “Even if it requires paying international market rates, the government will secure essential supplies such as petrol and diesel,” he said.
Mr Reddy added that the number of vehicles in the country is steadily increasing, leading to a rise in fuel demand. He also pointed out that many households that previously relied on firewood or kerosene have transitioned to LPG, largely due to health considerations.
