Telangana Health Department issues heatwave advisory as temperatures exceed 41°C and maximum temperatures were forecast to gradually rise by 2-3°C; tips include hydration and avoiding outdoor activities.
The Telangana Health Department issued a heatwave advisory with dos and don’ts as the temperatures across the State have been on the rise and the India Meteorological Department has issued an alert about gradual rise in the maximum temperature by 2-3°C during the next three days. The maximum recorded temperatures in many locations in the State has been over 41°C in the past few days.
Broadly, the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, B. Ravinder Nayak, urged people to stay hydrated, be indoors to the extent possible, and cover oneself while going out in the sun. People were suggested not to go out between 12.00 p.m. and 03:00 pm, avoid consuming drinks with large amounts of sugar and not to take high-protein, salty, spicy and oily food.
“Avoid consuming alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks or drinks with large amounts of sugar as these actually lead to loss of more body-fluid or may cause stomach cramps. Avoid strenuous activities in the afternoon. Do not eat stale food,” as per the advisory.
People were asked to drink sufficient water, even if not thirsty, and to eat seasonal fruits and vegetables with high water content like watermelon, musk melon, oranges, grapes, pineapples, cucumbers or any other locally available fruits and vegetables.
“Wear thin loose cotton garments preferably the light colored ones. Cover your head by using the umbrella or hat or cap or towel or any other traditional head gears during exposure to the direct sunlight,” the senior Health Official stated in the advisory.
The maximum temperature recorded in the State has been over 41°C in the past few days. On Wednesday (April 8, 2026), Adavi Devullapalli in Nalgonda recorded the highest of 41.7°C and 28 districts recorded 40°C or over it, as per Telangana Development Planning Society’s daily report.
