
Families of two deceased constables get ₹1 crore each in Nellore

Nellore SP Ajitha Vejendla hands over ex-gratia and insurance cheques of about ₹1 crore each to families of two constables who died on duty in the district.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajitha Vejendla on Wednesday (April 9, 2026) handed over cheques of ex-gratia and insurance amounts of about ₹1 crore each to the families of two deceased constables at the District Police Office in Nellore.
In collaboration with the State Bank of India (SBI), an accidental insurance amount of ₹1.12 crore was given to the family of ARPC-797 K. Ramesh Babu, and ₹1.10 crore to the kin of PC-2989 G. Shivakumar, who died in an accident while on duty in the district.
The SP said steps would be taken to ensure that all benefits from the government are provided to the families of police personnel who died in the line of duty at the earliest.
Additional SP Ch. Soujanya, SBI officials, police officials, staff, and family members took part in the programme. The SP also felicitated two retired police personnel on the same day: B. Jayant Kumar, PC-1264, who served for 42 years, and K. Hazrat, Head Constable-1038, who served for 43 years.
Ms. Vejendla said it was commendable that the two retired personnel had served with discipline for so long. She advised them to take care of their health after retirement. Additional SP Soujanya said their services would be remembered by the department.
