A lawyer was murdered in Rayachoti due to an old rivalry; five suspects arrested, one remains at large.
A lawyer was brutally murdered in Annamayya district following a long-standing rivalry on Wednesday (April 8) night. In this connection, the police arrested five accused and launched a manhunt for another.
Addressing a press conference at Rayachoti on Thursday (April 9, 2026), Superintendent of Police (SP) Dheeraj Kunubilli said that the victim, Poojari Yellaiah of Patha Vaddepalli village in KV Palli mandal, was allegedly targeted over local factional tensions and previous disputes. The immediate trigger that reportedly led to the incident was a quarrel on April 6 regarding the installation of a transformer near his house.
The SP said the accused had allegedly conspired in advance, assembling near Matampalli Cross before blocking access to Yellaiah’s house using tractors.
Around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, they allegedly stormed the house, assaulted Yellaiah’s parents and dragged them outside. Yellaiah was brutally killed, having been struck with boulders. His parents sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at SVRR Hospital in Tirupati.
The SP stated that immediately after the crime, a special team was formed to apprehend the accused. Five of those accused were identified as Kunchepu Srinivasulu, Mohan Babu, Purushottam, Poojari Shankar, and Bandi Siva, while another accused is absconding, prompting the police to launch a manhunt for him.
Mr. Kunubilli said that stones, sticks, two motorcycles, and two tractors used in the crime were seized.
