Nephrologist Georgi Abraham receives the Karl D. Nolph Lifetime Achievement Award for his impact on kidney care in India.
Founder-Trustee of TANKER (Tamilnad Kidney Research) Foundation Georgi Abraham, a renowned nephrologist, received the Karl D. Nolph Lifetime Achievement Award at the 46th Annual Dialysis Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 27, in recognition of his contributions to the field of nephrology.
Dr. Abraham pioneered Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) in India. He was instrumental in introducing and establishing CAPD in the country during the early 1990s, making life-saving dialysis treatment more accessible and affordable for patients suffering from kidney failure.
He, along with Latha A. Kumaraswami (Managing Trustee), Suresh Balaje (Chairman), and other like-minded individuals, established TANKER Foundation in June 1993 to provide subsidised dialysis and financial assistance for kidney transplantation, medications, and diagnostic investigations for underprivileged patients suffering from kidney disease, a press release said.
