Tamil Nadu Minister settles wage hike dispute between Samsung and workers' union, ensuring harmonious work environment for employees.
:
Tamil Nadu Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development C.V. Ganesan on Monday (May 19, 2025) held talks with Samsung management and Samsung India Workers’ Union (SIWU), backed by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) at the Secretariat.
An amicable settlement was reached between the parties on issues relating to wage hikes, thereby ending the long-standing impasse.
A section of workers at Samsung’s factory in Sunguvarchatram has been holding a slew of protests seeking wage hikes since last year. They were also seeking reinstatement of 25 suspended workers.
According to the release, both parties entered a wage pact for three years — from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2028. As per the agreement, workers will get a wage hike of ₹9,000 in 2025-26, and ₹4,500 each in 2026-2027 and 2027-2028, resulting in an overall hike of ₹18,000 during the period, it added.
Further, based on their experience, workers would get a special wage increase in the range of ₹1,000-₹4,000 for the three years, the release said.
As a one-time benefit, workers who completed 6 years of service as on May 31, 2025 and got no promotion, will get a special promotion. Additional leave benefits and other incentives are also part of the agreement, it added.
