The Railway Ministry has decided to regularise the services of Surat-Mangaluru Junction-Surat bi-weekly Special Express along with nine other special trains.
A recent notification from the Ministry said the Special Train running with numbers 09057/09058 would be renumbered as Train No. 19057/19058 from the date to be announced later.
The service was introduced initially as a weekly festival special train between Udhna (near Surat) and Mangaluru Junction in April 2023. The Ministry continued to extend its periodicity at regular intervals and later made it a bi-weekly service. The recent extension for Train No. 09057 was till March 29 and for Train No. 09058 was till March 30.
Running till commercial hub Surat in Gujarat, the train has become popular in coastal Karnataka, whose people have business interests in Gujarat. Similar was the case with the residents of Gujarat. Its regularisation would bring down the fares to the levels of regular express trains from that of special trains.
At present, there are no regular train services from Mangaluru to regions beyond Mumbai. Train No. 12619/20 Mumbai LTT-Mangaluru Central-Mumbai LTT and Train No. 12133/134 Mumbai CSMT-Mangaluru Junction-Mumbai CSMT operate only till Mumbai.
Train No. 19057 departs Surat on Wednesdays and Sundays at 7.35 p.m. to reach Mangaluru Junction at 7.45 p.m. on Thursdays and Mondays. Train No. 19058 leaves Mangaluru Junction at 10.30 p.m. on Thursdays and Mondays to reach Surat at 11.45 p.m. on Fridays and Tuesdays.
