Coimbatore students receive earthen bowls to provide water for birds, promoting conservation on World Sparrow Day.
The Coimbatore Forest Division and non-governmental organisation Wildlife and Nature Conservation Trust (WNCT) organised an awareness programme on conservation of birds for students of Sri Gopal Naidu Higher Secondary School here on Wednesday and distributed earthen bowls to them to keep water for birds during summer.
The event was organised at the office of the District Forest Officer as part of observing World Sparrow Day, which fell on March 20.
District Forest Officer N. Vengatesh Prabhu distributed earthen bowls to the students and emphasised the importance of protecting birds and the crucial role they play in maintaining ecological balance.
Assistant Conservator of Forests G. Vijayakumar interacted with the students and highlighted the importance of conserving birds and biodiversity.
Trust founder Sadiq Ali said the water bowls were distributed to the students to encourage them to care for birds and to assist them in coping with water scarcity during the summer.
M. Sirajdeen from WNCT said the NGO was planning to provide a total of 1,000 earthen bowls to students and members of the public during the season to keep birds and small animals hydrated.
