Excise inspector, teacher arrested by ACB in bribery and benami transactions case
Two government officials, including a Prohibition and Excise Inspector and a school teacher, have been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in connection with a bribery and benami transactions case.
The accused have been identified as G. Ramu, Prohibition and Excise Inspector posted in Karimnagar, and J. Venu, a Secondary Grade Teacher at a government school in Jagtial district.
Both were taken into custody on Tuesday night in a registered RCO case and later produced before a special court in Karimnagar.
According to the ACB, during his tenure as Station House Officer in Vemulawada, Ramu allegedly received illegal gratifications, mamools, from a jaggery merchant through Venu, who acted as an intermediary. The payments were made through UPI transactions on a regular basis between 2022 and 2024.
Investigators found that Venu transferred the collected amounts to accounts belonging to Ramu as well as to his father, using bank accounts held with State Bank of India and Union Bank of India. Officials said the pattern of transactions strongly suggested a benami arrangement aimed at concealing the source of illicit funds.
During searches conducted at Ramu’s residence, ACB officials recovered unaccounted cash amounting to ₹20 lakh, which was seized.
