BJP leaders request an extension for GBA electoral roll verification deadline due to technical issues and upcoming festival holidays.
R. Ashok, Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, and other BJP leaders on Wednesday urged the State Election Commission to extend the deadline for verifying draft electoral rolls and filing objections for the GBA elections.
They cited a six-day disruption of the voter verification website from March 13 due to technical issues and said that it caused significant inconvenience to citizens attempting to access the rolls.
“The draft electoral rolls were received at our office on March 16, and require more time for thorough verification. With the next three days being holidays due to festivals, many people will be travelling to their native places, making it difficult to carry out the verification process,” the BJP said.
Citing upcoming festival holidays and travel, the BJP sought an extension of the objection deadline from March 20 to 30 to safeguard voters’ rights.
