Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao's service extended by three months, ensuring continuity in Telangana's administration during crucial planning.
The service of Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao has been extended by three more months.
Mr. Ramakrishna Rao, a 1991 batch officer, will now be in the post till June 30. The Department of Personnel and Training has communicated the approval of the Central government for the extension. In a communication, the DoPT referred to the proposal of the Telangana government seeking extension of Mr. Rao’s service through its letter dated February 24. “I am directed to convey the approval of the Central government for extension of service of K. Ramakrishna Rao for a further period of three months — April 1 to June 30,” DoPT under secretary Rajesh Kumar Yadav said in the communication.
The extension was given in relaxation of provision to Rule 16(1) of IAS (DSRB) Rules 1958 by invoking Rule 3 of AIS (CSRM) Rules 1960. The development ensures that Mr. Ramakrishna Rao would continue at the helm of the administration till the completion of Prajapati Palana - Pragati Pranalika — the 99 day action plan of the government to reach out the people at the grassroots levels
Interestingly. Mr. Ramakrishna Rao was the first serving officer to receive extension of seven months at one go. Mr. Ramakrishna Rao was due to retire in August last year, but his service was extended till March 31 this year.
The extension also brings relief for the time being to the State government which would otherwise be forced to scout for an alternative especially amidst the ongoing budget session. Mr. Ramakrishna headed the Finance department for over eight years in the past and presented around 15 budgets, including two vote on account budgets, creating a record in the newly formed State.
