Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Ajit Pawar on April 12 said crops over more than one lakh acres have been damaged due to the recent unseasonal rains and hailstorms in the State.
The State Government should provide aid to the affected farmers, he demanded while speaking to reporters in Mumbai.

“Onion, papaya, grapes and other crops have been destroyed,” the Nationalist Congress Party leader said.
He would be meeting, in his capacity as Leader of Opposition, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for the meeting of a committee set up to make certain appointments on April 12, Mr. Pawar said.
“I will also apprise them of the losses faced by farmers,” he added.
To a question about reports that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has given him a clean chit in the alleged Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank scam, Mr. Pawar said it was not true and the probe was still going on.

The Union and State governments provided support in several ways to the needy people, but private institutions should also extend help, especially to those requiring medical assistance, said C.P. Rajkumar, Managing Director, Nalam Multispeciality Hospital, here on Saturday. Speaking at a function to honour Inspector General of Police V. Balakrishnan and neurologist S. Meenakshisundaram with C. Palaniappan Memorial Award for their contribution to society and Nalam Kappom medical adoption of Type-1 diabetic children, he said the governments implemented numerous welfare programmes, but the timely help by a private hospital or a doctor in the neighbourhood to the people in need would go a long way in safeguarding their lives.
