BJP calls for regular waste removal from Palayamkottai Market to address unsanitary conditions along Manakavalan Pillai Hospital Road.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the Corporation authorities to ensure regular removal of waste discarded by traders of Mahatma Gandhi Market in Palayamkottai along Manakavalan Pillai Hospital Road to create nauseating condition on this busy road.
In the petition submitted to Deputy Mayor K.R. Raju, BJP functionaries Swami Subramanian and Karthik Narayanan said the waste getting generated in the 400-odd shops in the recently inaugurated Mahatma Gandhi Market in Palayamkottai was being dumped along the Manakavalan Pillai Hospital Road. The rotten vegetables and the fruits being discarded by the traders along this road give sordid and nauseating look to this road and the market itself.
The public crossing this road had to bear the unbearable stench emanating from the waste especially the discarded rotten fruits and the vegetables that attract the stray cattle which also pose serious threat to the passers-by. Hence, the Corporation should ensure the regular removal of garbage from the Gandhi Market, they said.
DMK functionary R. Maharajan of submitted a petition seeking the extension of underground drainage scheme in the areas where washermen live in large number in Shenbhagam Pillai Street in Tirunelveli Town which falls under ward 26.
The residents of Lakshmipuram near Tirunelveli Junction submitted a petition seeking the fitting of street lights in the electric poles in their area particularly near the ration shop, anganwadi and the sanitary complex to ensure their safety in the night.
