BIS seizes over ₹5 lakh worth of fake ISI-marked electrical cables in Hyderabad, highlighting the importance of genuine certification.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Hyderabad branch office conducted a search and seizure operation at a cable wire manufacturing unit located in Cherlapally Industrial Area on Monday for violations of the BIS Act, 2016.
During the raid, officials found over 200 boxes of PVC insulated electrical cables and wires of various brands stored and offered for sale with fake ISI mark.
The unit was found to be using a fake ISI mark and licence number without obtaining the required BIS licence or approvals. The seized products, manufactured and stocked with spurious BIS standard marks, are estimated to be worth more than ₹5 lakh, as per a release.
P.V. Srikanth, Director and Head of the BIS Hyderabad branch, urged consumers to verify the authenticity of the ISI mark on products using the ‘BIS CARE’ mobile application and to check hallmarks on gold jewellery. He said all mandatory products identified by the Government of India must be manufactured, sold and stored only with valid BIS certification.
