Bengaluru North Corporation establishes 70 designated feeding spots for stray dogs, promoting humane management and public health.
In a step towards effective stray dog management, Bengaluru North Corporation has identified 70 designated feeding spots and installed signboards, the commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar said in a statement.
“We have taken steps to ensure humane management of street dogs while balancing public health and environmental cleanliness,” the statement said.
This initiative has been undertaken in accordance with the guidelines of the Supreme Court, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, to create a structured and regulated system of feeding that does not cause inconvenience to the public, the statement said.
The signboards installed feature instructions stating that food should be given only at the designated locations. They also note that feeding should not be done on main roads, near hospitals, schools, or crowded public places. The person feeding is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the area after feeding. Causing harm or harassment to dogs is illegal; feeding must be done in a disciplined manner ensuring public safety, the signboards add.
