VMRDA fast-tracks roads to Bhogapuram airport, creating a smarter shortcut for northern Vizag residents and boosting local growth.
The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) is fast-tracking the development of seven master plan roads to ensure a faster commute to the upcoming greenfield international airport at Bhogapuram.
Among these, is the 3.8-kilometre greenfield road connecting Dukkavanipalem Junction on the new NH-16 to the Gambheeram Reservoir Junction on the old NH-16, which will be a boon to residents in the northern areas of Visakhapatnam.
Once completed, the route will serve as a “smarter shortcut” for commuters and provide significant relief to residents in northern neighborhoods such as Madhurawada, Yendada, and Rushikonda.
Currently, commuters traveling from Anakapalli must navigate the congested Anandapuram Curve, travelling an additional 4.5 kilometres to reach the northern part of Visakhapatnam. By taking a right turn at the Dukkavanipalem junction instead, they will save both time and fuel. Commuters from Visakhapatnam will have to take a left turn at Gambheeram Reservoir Junction on the old NH-16.
“This road serves a dual purpose,” a VMRDA official told The Hindu.
The ₹16.23 crore project is expected to trigger a wave of local growth. The 60-foot-wide road will feature a 40-metre bridge near the Gambheeram Reservoir, which officials believe will become a scenic halt for commuters to view the water body.
