MVI held in ACB trap, aide on the run in Khammam bribery case
A Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) in Khammam district was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹24,800, while his private aide is absconding.
The accused was identified as A. Vara Prasad, MVI at Wyra. He demanded and accepted ₹24,800 through his assistant, Raja Shekar, a private employee working with him. The bribe was sought from a complainant at the RTO unit office in Wyra in return for not imposing fines and penalties on the complainant’s transport vehicles operating in the area.
Officials said the aide, who collected the bribe on behalf of the officer, fled the scene with the tainted cash immediately after the transaction. Efforts are under way to trace and apprehend him.
During post-trap proceedings, ACB officials found an additional unaccounted sum of ₹50,200 in the MVI’s car, which was seized in the presence of mediators for further verification.
The accused official was arrested and produced before the special court for SPE and ACB cases in Warangal. The case remains under investigation, and the identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons.
The bureau has urged the public to report any instances of bribery by public servants through its toll-free number 1064 or via its official social media channels, assuring confidentiality to complainants. *
