‘Tamil Nadu’s healthcare services a top draw for global medical tourism’

Tamil Nadu emerges as a premier medical tourism hub, attracting 15 lakh international patients annually with high-quality healthcare services.
The high standard of healthcare has made Tamil Nadu a leading destination for medical tourism from 70 countries, Health and Family Welfare Minister Ma. Subramanian said in Tiruchi on Saturday.
Speaking at the Graduation Day programme of Periyar College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PCPS), the Minister said: “There has been a significant growth in the State’s health sector in recent years. Approximately 15 lakh patients from abroad seek medical assistance in our hospitals annually. In recognition of pioneering efforts taken by our government to improve home-based healthcare initiatives, the ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam’ scheme launched by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was conferred the U.N. Interagency Task Force Awards in 2024.”
Mr. Subramanian said that in the past five years, over 38,000 medical graduates had been placed in jobs through the merit-based and transparent procedures of the Medical Recruitment Board, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, and the District Health Society. He encouraged students to utilise their knowledge in the service of society.
In his address, PCPS founder-chairperson K. Veeramani said that future generations should be ready to face the proliferation of artificial intelligence in daily life and to use technology wisely.
College principal R. Senthamarai presented the annual report. A total of 125 graduands received degrees during the convocation ceremony on Saturday.
