State Chief Information Commissioner favours timely disposal of RTI applications

Karnataka State Chief Information Commissioner educates officials on RTI procedures and conducts hearings, emphasizing timely disposal and transparency.

Karnataka State Chief Information Commissioner A.M. Prasad recently organised an interaction with Public Information Officers (PIOs) and First Appellate Authorities from various departments at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kalaburagi.

During the session, he thoroughly educated the officials on the procedures for filing Right to Information (RTI) applications, their timely disposal, transfer guidelines, applicable fees, the process of first appeals and the inquiries conducted by the Commission.

He instructed the officials to ensure that no application remains pending at their level and to dispose them of within the stipulated timeframe.

He also emphasised on the mandatory public dissemination of essential information on the department’s websites in accordance with Section 4(1)(a) of the RTI Act.

Public Information Officers and First Appellate Authorities from various departments, including Revenue, Urban Local Bodies, Police, Zilla Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat, Gram Panchayat, School Education and Literacy, Public Works Department and Water Resources, participated in the interaction.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Kanika Sikriwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Rayappa Hunasagi, Additional Superintendent of Police Mahesh Meghanannavar and other officials were also present.

The Chief Information Commissioner also conducted hearings at the Commission’s Kalaburagi office concerning cases falling under the Kalaburagi Bench.
