Eastern Naval Command's 'Operational Demonstration' rehearsals on R.K. Beach Road attract tourists with aerial displays and naval operations.
The rehearsals of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) ‘Operational Demonstration’ began on a grand note on R.K. Beach Road on Saturday (December 28) and provided a visual treat to beach visitors.
Highlights of the rehearsals include tactical manoeuvres by fighter aircraft, warplane formation, skydiving display by Marine Commandos (MARCOS), search and rescue operations by MARCOS, warships and submarines, composite flypast and firing flare to the sky. The rehearsals came to an end with the illumination of the ships.
Being a weekend, a large number of tourists, who are visiting the city in the winter season, thronged the Beach Road to watch the rehearsals and capture the moments on their mobile phones. Many occupied spots in front of the Viswa Priya Function Hall well before 4 p.m.
Several citizens expressed happiness over the conduct of ‘Operational Demonstration’ in the city after the ‘Navy Day’ event was shifted to Puri in Odisha this year.
A large number of police personnel were mobilised as part of bandobast, and traffic police personnel monitored parking and the vehicular flow on the Beach Road stretch.
The authorities expect more crowd on the second day of the rehearsals on Sunday (December 29) and also for the final rehearsal on January 2.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will attend ‘Operational Demonstration’ by the Indian Navy on January 4 and will address the public from the stage opposite Viswa Priya Function Hall, which is being decked up by the authorities.

The Union and State governments provided support in several ways to the needy people, but private institutions should also extend help, especially to those requiring medical assistance, said C.P. Rajkumar, Managing Director, Nalam Multispeciality Hospital, here on Saturday. Speaking at a function to honour Inspector General of Police V. Balakrishnan and neurologist S. Meenakshisundaram with C. Palaniappan Memorial Award for their contribution to society and Nalam Kappom medical adoption of Type-1 diabetic children, he said the governments implemented numerous welfare programmes, but the timely help by a private hospital or a doctor in the neighbourhood to the people in need would go a long way in safeguarding their lives.
