Kumaraswamy and V. Somanna on Thursday.
Being a key agricultural, commercial and tourism hub between Bengaluru and Mysuru, Mr. Kumaraswamy said Mandya requires a modern railway station. With railway stations across India being upgraded to resemble airports, Mr. Kumaraswamy expressed confidence that Mandya railway station, too, would be developed similarly with the support of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and Mr. Somanna.
With work in this regard already under way, Mr. Kumaraswamy urged the Railway Ministry to transform Mandya railway station into a world-class, fully equipped station with more platforms and improved infrastructure.
Mr. Kumaraswamy also pointed out that the existing railway station in Maddur was not only nearly 100 years old, but was also located far from the town.
Hence, he proposed the need for a new, well-equipped station within the town. Also, there is heavy passenger traffic, and the present station is insufficient, he said.
Mr. Somanna, who responded positively and assured immediate action, promised to send officials for a survey as soon as land for the purpose was identified.
