CM orders fast-track repairs of Kaleshwaram barrages
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to expedite repair works of the three barrages under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and bring them back into use at the earliest.
At a review meeting on Thursday, the Chief Minister, along with Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, assessed the status of the project and ongoing restoration efforts.
Engineers informed the Chief Minister that not just the sunken pillar at Medigadda, but the entire 1.6-kilometre stretch of the barrage would need to be thoroughly studied.
Responding to this, the Chief Minister ordered the preparation of a special action plan, including drilling around 500 borewells in the Medigadda area, and asked officials to arrange the necessary machinery to complete the task swiftly.
He also directed officials to prepare detailed designs for the repair works and a comprehensive schedule of activities to be completed by December. Stressing that there should be no delays, he assured that there would be no shortage of funds for the project.
Mr Reddy instructed officials to complete the works in accordance with the recommendations of the National Dam Safety Authority and ensure that the pace of execution is significantly accelerated. He also instructed that testing and sample collection being conducted under the supervision of the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) be completed before the onset of the monsoon.

Upgrading of the railway station in Mandya into a ‘world-class facility’, establishing an additional railway station at Maddur and construction of overbridges and underpasses at level crossings along the Bengaluru-Mandya-Mysuru railway sections came under focus during a window-trailing inspection by Union Ministers H.D. Kumaraswamy and V. Somanna on Thursday.
