KTR calls on Jeevan Reddy in Jagtial, septuagenarian leader to join BRS
Almost a fortnight after resigning from the ruling Congress party, T. Jeevan Reddy, the septuagenarian leader from Jagtial, on Thursday announced his decision to join the main Opposition, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
Mr. Reddy, a former minister, conveyed his decision to this effect to BRS working president K T Rama Rao, who met him along with a host of BRS leaders at his residence in Jagtial on Thursday afternoon. His decision came after consultations with his loyal aides and well-wishers.
Mr. Jeevan Reddy resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party on March 25, 2026, severing his four-decade-long association. He cited the injustice meted out to the loyal Congress cadres due to the undue interference of the defectors in the internal party affairs in Jagtial for his decision to quit the party.
Speaking to the media, flanked by Mr. Rama Rao and other BRS leaders, Mr Reddy said, “I had patiently endured the insults for the past 20 months. I had ultimately parted ways with the Congress unable to tolerate the insults to the loyal party cadres anymore.”
“I have decided to work under the leadership of the BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR),” he said, adding that he is looking forward to meet him soon. Development has taken a backseat in Telangana under the present Congress dispensation in the last two years due to misrule, taking a toll on the ten years of development and welfare schemes, he alleged.
Mr. KTR said, “KCR invited Mr. Jeevan Reddy in 2014 itself. But, Mr. Reddy continued in the Congress party as a committed leader.” The two leaders share a long association, he said, recalling that KCR during his maiden visit to Jagtial as Chief Minister in 2014 sanctioned Bornapalli bridge following a representation by Mr. Jeevan Reddy.
