TPCC's T. Jagga Reddy criticizes KCR for undermining welfare schemes, particularly free bus travel for women in Telangana.
TPCC working president T. Jagga Reddy slammed former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, accusing him of undermining welfare schemes initiated by the Congress government in the State, particularly the free bus travel scheme for women.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy dismissed KCR’s remarks made during the BRS Silver Jubilee meeting, that free bus scheme for the women was a waste. “Is it wrong to provide free bus facilities to women? Those who don’t get a seat may complain, but women who benefit from the scheme are appreciating it,” he said.
He added that the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) had almost become defunct under the previous BRS regime. “When KCR criticises the scheme, it only means it is working well,” he said.
Highlighting other welfare schemes, Jagga Reddy said farmers were happy with the ₹500 bonus being given to those cultivating fine variety (Sanna rakam) paddy. “A farmer with five acres of land will now get a bonus of ₹75,000. People are congratulating Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and other ministers for this move,” he said.
Mr. Reddy sought to know why KCR had stayed at his farm house for 16 months when the people were suffering from so many issues. The Congress MLA said the State government had already waived ₹22,000 crore worth of crop loans in a year, surpassing the BRS government’s waiver of ₹20,000 crore over eleven years.
On women’s welfare, the former MLA said the government is spending ₹4,000 crore annually. “And yet KCR wants the free bus scheme to be withdrawn? Women should think about this seriously,” he added.
