Karnataka Today newsletter: 15-year-old missing girl from Kerala found dead in Chikkamagaluru, and more
The 15-year-old girl from Palakkad in Kerala, who went missing near Manikyadhara Falls in Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka, was found dead in a gorge on Friday (April 10, 2026). The police had launched a search operation for the girl, Sreenanda, who was on a visit to the tourist place along with 40 members of her family. She went missing on Tuesday evening (April 7).
Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Dayama told The Hindu that the body had been traced, and the clothes she was wearing were intact. “The post-mortem and other procedures will follow,” he said. The recovery of the girl’s body left her family members shattered, who suspect that she could have been drugged and kidnapped.
With summer temperatures in Bengaluru rising to new highs, the State Police Complaints Authority raised concern over working conditions of traffic police personnel who are exposed to extreme heat and pollution for long hours. In a letter to the DG-IGP on April 8, SPCA member Mohan Kumar Danappa urged the department to take immediate steps to safeguard the health of on-duty personnel.
Highlighting the issue, Mr. Danappa noted that police personnel, unlike other government employees, are required to work round-the-clock due to the nature of their duties. He said that increasing temperatures, coupled with vehicular emissions and widespread dust caused by ongoing infrastructure work, have significantly worsened air quality in Bengaluru and across Karnataka.
In a swift action, Bengaluru police rescued a 28-year-old man from a life-threatening situation after he posted a distressing message on his WhatsApp status. On April 8, the man had posted a message: “Today is my last day”, which was seen by a friend. The friend immediately alerted the Namma 112 Emergency Helpline.
The helpline staff relayed the information to Hoysala-215 patrol personnel, attached to Begur Police Station. The team acted swiftly and reached the given location within four minutes. On arrival, they found the house locked from inside. When they broke open the door and entered the house, the man was found unconscious on the floor. He was immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital.
