Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: Strong rooms in Kozhikode secured with 24/7 surveillance ahead of vote counting on May 4.
Stringent security arrangements are in place around strong rooms in Kozhikode district following the completion of polling for the Assembly elections. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) from various polling booths were shifted to designated strong rooms in GPS-enabled vehicles with police escort.
The strong rooms remain sealed, apart from ensuring a three-tier security system comprising Central forces, armed police, and local police. According to officials, the procedures were completed under the supervision of the District Election Officer.
Machines from each constituency have been stored in separate strong rooms. Those replaced during mock polling and reserve machines have been shifted to a warehouse at Chathamangalam.
EVMs from Vadakara, Nadapuram, and Kuttiyadi are stored at Madappally Government College. Those from Thiruvambady and Koduvally have been shifted to St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Koodathai, while machines from the remaining constituencies are housed at JDT Islam campus at Vellimadukunnu.
Surveillance cameras have also been installed outside the strong rooms, with 24x7 monitoring. The strong rooms will be opened only on the day of counting on May 4 in the presence of political party representatives. Counting of votes will be completed at these three locations in Kozhikode district.
