
One carriageway of Katpady vehicular underpass opens for traffic

Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Member of Parliament Kota Srinivas Poojary and Gurme Suresh Shetty, Kaup MLA, on Friday, declared one of the two carriageways (Mangaluru to Udupi direction) of the Katpady vehicular underpass (VUP) open for traffic.
Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Member of Parliament Kota Srinivas Poojary and Gurme Suresh Shetty, Kaup MLA, on Friday, declared one of the two carriageways (Mangaluru to Udupi direction) of the Katpady vehicular underpass (VUP) open for traffic.
The VUP is being constructed for Kanniyakumari-Panvel National Highway 66 at Katpady Junction in Udupi district at an estimated cost of ₹17 crore. Mr. Poojary and Mr. Shetty, who had inspected the project site on April 6, had announced one carriageway would be opened on Friday to reduce hardship to road users.
Mr. Poojary said the contractor, Tirthahalli-based National Infrabuild Pvt., Ltd., and National Projects Pvt., Ltd., a joint venture, has promised to complete the work on the other carriageway soon and allow it to be opened for traffic. The work had started in November last, while the contractor had 24 months time to complete it. However, the contractor has assured to complete the work in 18 months.
