Former Congress MLA Kakasaheb Patil, a Maratha leader, dies at 70 in Belagavi after brief illness. Survived by family.
The former Congress MLA Kakasaheb Patil died in Belagavi on Wednesday.
He passed away after a brief illness. He was 70. He was admitted to the KLE Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital.
His wife died a few years ago. He is survived by a son and a daughter and some family members.
He was a Congress MLA from Nippani in 1999, 2004 and 2008. But he lost the next Assembly elections.
The Maratha leader was considered a follower of the former Union Minister Sharad Pawar. Congress leaders in the district depended on his leadership to get Maratha votes for the party.
He was deeply involved in local cooperative societies and sugar factories.
He completed BA from Dev Chand College in 1975. He continued to live in Walki, his native village near Nippani, on the Karnataka-Maharashtra border even after retirement from politics.
