Prakasam SP launches digital number stickers for autorickshaws to enhance passenger safety and improve traffic control in Ongole.
Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Harshavardhan Raju unveiled the traffic digital number stickers as part of digitalisation initiative for autorickshaws in combined Prakasam district at District Police Parade Ground in Ongole on Tuesday. Now, after boarding an auto, passengers can scan the QR code and take a photo, and complete details of the auto driver and owner will be displayed on their mobile phones.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, the SP said, “In line with the adoption of modern technology, the process of attaching special digital number stickers to autos has been initiated in Ongole town. The main purpose of allocating these digital numbers is to provide complete details of the autos to the passengers and to ensure that they reach their destinations safely.”
“Through this system, the police department has taken an innovative step with an aim of easily identifying the autos, improving traffic control, and providing more security to the people. With each auto having a unique identity through digital number stickers, the police will be able to identify information faster in case of emergencies,” the SP explained.
He advised the auto drivers to treat passengers with courtesy and respect, especially women and the elderly. He also cautioned them not to drive after consuming alcohol and not to seat people unnecessarily next to the driver’s seat. Finally, he warned them not to charge passengers excessive fares.
