Join our March 11 webinar on kidney care awareness, focusing on prevention and early detection of kidney diseases.
Ahead of World Kidney Day (March 12), The Hindu and Kauvery Hospital will jointly organise a webinar titled ‘Kidney Care: Awareness & Prevention’ as part of the Wellness Series at 11.30 a.m. on Wednesday (March 11, 2026).
Kidneys play a crucial role in maintaining overall health by filtering waste and excess fluids from the blood, regulating blood pressure, and balancing essential minerals in the body. However, kidney diseases are often referred to as silent conditions as they may progress without noticeable symptoms in the early stages. With the rising incidence of lifestyle-related conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, the risk of kidney disease has increased significantly in recent years.
The webinar aims to create greater awareness about kidney health, highlight the importance of early detection, and educate people on preventive measures that can help reduce the risk of kidney-related complications. The session will also address common misconceptions surrounding kidney diseases and discuss when individuals should seek medical advice and screening.
The speakers for the session are K. Abirami, senior consultant and head of the department, nephrology, Kauvery Hospital, Salem, who will speak on ‘Renal Replacement Therapy: Myths & Facts’; Sakthi Selvakumar, consultant nephrologist, Kauvery Hospital, Cantonment, Tiruchi, who will discuss ‘Early Warning Signs of Kidney Disease: When to Test and When to Act’; and Shivakumar D., senior consultant nephrologist, Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani, Chennai, who will make a presentation on ‘Common Kidney Diseases’. The session will be moderated by journalist Soma Basu.
