HPV vaccination campaign launched in Mysuru
The district-level launch of the Cervical Cancer Prevention (HPV) Vaccination Campaign for 14-year-old girls was held at SMT Hospital in Mysuru on Tuesday.
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine protects against cervical cancer caused by HPV infections and also offers protection against certain other cancers, said District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. P.C. Kumaraswamy after inaugurating the campaign.
Dr. Kumaraswamy said the HPV vaccine helps prevent serious diseases caused by the Human Papillomavirus and emphasised that vaccination plays a crucial role in safeguarding the health of adolescent girls.
According to the Government of India guidelines, the vaccine will currently be administered to girls who have completed 14 years of age but are below 15 years. The vaccination programme is being implemented under the National Universal Immunisation Programme.
All eligible 14-year-old girls in the district are the primary beneficiaries of the initiative. The vaccine will be administered by doctors and specialists at government Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and taluk public hospitals across the district.
Children receiving the vaccine will be registered on the U-WIN portal, through which beneficiaries will also receive vaccination certificates. For registration, beneficiaries must carry a valid identity proof, mobile number, and Aadhaar card.
