₹30 cr. UGD works in Mandya; DC expresses concern over slow progress
The Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) has undertaken underground drainage (UGD) works in the Mandya City Municipal Council limits at an estimated cost of ₹30 crore.
Deputy Commissioner Kumar, who chaired a district-level implementation committee meeting at the City Municipal Council hall to review works under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 and the Used Water Management Project funded through the National Green Tribunal Environmental Compensation Fund, expressed concern over the slow pace of the project.
He said the work order for the project was issued in March 2025 to a Bengaluru-based company and the works were scheduled to be completed by August 2025. However, progress so far has been far below the targeted level, he noted.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the delay, the DC directed officials to speed up the implementation and ensure timely completion. Officials from KUIDFC, the District Urban Development Cell and the Mandya City Municipal Council were instructed to conduct regular inspections and submit progress reports.
Under the project, the capacity of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) on Yattagadahalli Road in Mandya city will be upgraded to 10 MLD (million litres per day). The STP at Chikkegowdanadoddi will also be upgraded.
The project also includes laying a 2.72-km outfall sewer line using pipes of various diameters and installing a 462-metre-long UPVC pipeline. In addition, primary treatment plants will be upgraded, wet wells improved, and sludge pumps with a capacity of 83 HP installed. The STPs at Yattagadahalli and Chikkegowdanadoddi will be operated and maintained for a period of five years.
