Digital luggage locker facility inaugurated at Katpadi railway station 

Secure digital luggage lockers at Katpadi railway station offer convenience, safety, and various storage options for passengers.

Digital luggage locker facility was inaugurated at Katpadi railway station on Wednesday for passengers to be able to keep their baggage safely. 

Officials of Southern Railway said that the new, self-operated facility, is aimed at improving passenger amenities. “The new facility is a fool proof system. It can be easily operated,” said G. Venketaramanan, Station Manager after inaugurating the facility. 

The digital lockers are secure, accessible only through phone number verification via OTP and monitored by CCTV surveillance. Additionally, only digital payments are accepted creating a reliable user data trail to prevent any illegal activities. 

There are a variety of packages to suit different storage needs ranging from small boxes to extra-large lockers. Prices start at ₹20 for a small box for four hours and go up to ₹170 for an extra-large box for 24 hours.

A similar digital locker facility has been installed at the Villupuram Railway Junction and Tiruchi Junction. 

Plans are under way to install similar facilities at other stations such as Thanjavur, Madurai, Rameswaram, and Tiruvannamalai, railway officials said.
