Two persons are missing and four others were rescued following an explosion at a rocket propellant manufacturing unit linked to the defence establishment in Katepalli village, Yadadri Bhongir district on Tuesday.
Six persons were inside the facility at the time of the blast. While four have been rescued and shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, the whereabouts of the remaining two are currently unknown. Rescue teams are continuing to clear debris in search of the missing individuals, according to senior officials from the Yadadri police and Fire Department, who confirmed that the facility was linked to a defence research organisation.
While the Telangana Fire Control Room has reported two fatalities, officials at the site are yet to confirm the deaths.
According to an official at the Fire Control, a distress call was received at 6.40 p.m. after which two fire tenders were rushed to the spot. “By the time the teams arrived, the fire had allegedly subsided, but the structure had completely collapsed due to the explosion’s intensity,” said the official.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. Officials from the Factories Department and a Clues Team are expected to arrive at the site to examine the wreckage and gather forensic evidence.
