The police identified the accused as Dhanush, Apoorva, and Avinash, all residents of South Bengaluru and practising doctors at different private hospitals. They were released on station bail, as the sections invoked in the FIR were bailable at the station.
In the purported video widely shared on social media, the trio was seen riding a scooter on 15th Main Road in BTM Layout at around 10 p.m. on Sunday (March 22). The rider and the first pillion were seen not wearing any headgear, while the second pillion was seen wearing a white helmet. The second pillion was also seen holding an alcohol bottle, taking a drink from it and then raising the same hand, using it in place of an indicator to move to the right.
A motorist travelling behind the scooter filmed the act and shared it on social media. The video was then widely circulated, drawing the attention of the traffic police.
A senior police officer from the South Division (Traffic) said they took up a suo motu case based on the video .“All three were arrested and then released on station bail. They have been issued a warning,” the officer said. According to him, the accused were riding towards Jayadeva Signal from BTM Layout after having dinner together.
