A total of 74 nominations were filed by 64 candidates of various political parties and independents in the seven Assembly constituencies of Virudhunagar district on Saturday.
While Rajapalayam and Sivakasi Assembly seats received nominations from 13 candidates, Sattur Assembly segment received 11.
Among the candidates, who filed their nominations, were sitting MLAs, Thangam Thennarasu of the DMK for Tiruchuli Assembly constituency, S. Thangapandian of the DMK for Rajapalayam Assembly constituency, G. Ashokan of the Congress for Sivakasi Assembly constituency.
A nomination on behalf of BJP State president, Nainar Nagenthran, was filed by his supporters for Sattur Assembly constituency.
Other prominent candidates are S. Sethupathy of AIADMK for Aruppukottai Assembly constituency and CPI candidate P. Mahaligam and Puthiya Tamilagam candidate, K.K. Shyam, for Srivilliputtur (Reserved) Assembly constituency. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam candidates K. Jegateshwari (Rajapalayam), A. Karthik (Srivilliputtur) and S. Keerthana (Sivakasi).
Candidates of All India Puratchi Thalaivar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AIPTMMK) Harish (Rajapalayam), M. Chandra (Srivilliputur) and Esakki Raja (Sattur) also filed their nominations.
