Udupi DC urges stakeholders to submit reports by April 10 to enhance eco-friendly tourism development in the district.
Udupi Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa on Saturday asked the district tourism stakeholders’ team to submit a detailed report to her on April 10 on matters of interest that could complement tourism activities in the district.
Speaking at the district tourism stakeholders’ meeting in her office in Udupi, the Deputy Commissioner said that the tourism sector, blessed with the natural beauty in the district, should develop further. There is a need to prepare a blueprint for the comprehensive eco-friendly tourism development in the district. All stakeholders should contribute to the same.
She said scenic ranges of the Western Ghats, forests, streams, and religious places are important, and that thousands of tourists admire the district’s beauty. Before undertaking any tourism development activity, priority should be given to arranging drinking water, building washrooms, parking, ensuring accommodation, and other basic facilities.
She said the number of tourists visiting the district is increasing. If tourists receive information on existing tourist destinations as well as details of the hidden tourist destinations and accommodation facilities, they will want to spend more time in the Udupi district. This will further expand the tourism sector, with an increase in stakeholders’ income.
The Deputy Commissioner said that new tourism destinations and activities should be explored, and tourists should be exposed to them. Details of the tourist destinations should be made available on social media platforms.
She said that if proper publicity is given to the culture, heritage, customs, beliefs, and the food of the district, tourism can be boosted further.
