Oleg Buryak Mikolaevich is a helpless father waiting for the return of his teen son Vladislav, kidnapped by the Russian military.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is an international crisis. But it is also the world’s fastest-growing humanitarian crisis. People have been killed, maimed, uprooted, displaced and abducted in the war that is raging in the country since February 24 when Russia launched a pre-dawn attack on its neighbour.

Since the beginning of the war, dozens have been kidnapped by the Russian military and many are government officials. It is being alleged that the Russians are blackmailing Ukraine into surrendering in exchange for family members.

One such heartbreaking story comes from Zaporizhzhia, where the military head of the regional state administration, Oleg Buryak, is a helpless father waiting for the return of his teen son Vladislav, kidnapped by the Russian military.

Buryak Oleg Mikolaevich constantly checks his phone. He is no ordinary man. He has been charged with protecting the sovereignty of Ziporisia Oblast as the military commander of a unit.
