A US influencer shared a unique hack to wash underwear using a hotel coffee maker, which sparked mixed reactions over hygiene concerns and travel convenience.
A US influencer shared a travel hack where she demonstrated how to wash underwear using a hotel room coffee maker - and the internet has a whole lot to say about it.
The video, originally posted by travel content creator Tara and later reshared widely on X, showed her standing beside a standard in-room coffee machine while explaining what she called “one of the coolest tricks ever” for travellers who underpacked.
In the clip, Tara sets up a relatable scenario: arriving at a destination only to realise you don’t have enough underwear for the next day. “What am I going to wear tomorrow?” she says, before pointing to the coffee machine commonly found in hotel rooms.
She proceeds to explain the method step by step. According to Tara, all you need to do is place the underwear where the coffee grounds usually go, close the lid, and press the brew button.
The machine then runs “scorching hot water” through the fabric. After that, she suggests using the bathroom hair dryer to dry the garment quickly. “You’ll blow dry those bad boys, and you got yourself a cleaner pair of underwear,” she says in the video.
Tara adds that she learnt about the hack years ago from a friend who worked as a flight attendant and seemed surprised by how many people were already familiar with the trick. “It’s brilliant,” she concludes.

Women are treated in the new penal code as being on the same level as "slaves", with provisions allowing either "slave masters" or husbands to administer discretionary punishment, including beatings, to their wives or subordinates. This aspect of the code has drawn particular alarm from rights groups.

Andrew Windsor Mountbatten, who was stripped of his prince title over his links with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, was arrested in the UK on Thursday. Andrew is the grand-nephew of Lord Mountbatten, the last British viceroy in India. Lord Mountbatten was accused of being involved in a child sex ring, involving an orphanage in Belfast. Here's what we know about the Kincora Boys' Home scandal.
