Karnataka Revenue Minister urges Congress workers to focus on Kerala local body elections for party's comeback in 2025.
Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has urged Congress workers to focus on the upcoming local body elections in Kerala as they will set the stage for the party’s comeback in the 2025 Assembly elections in the State.
He was here on Wednesday to attend a meeting of local elected representatives and those in the cooperative sector. The event was organised by the Kozhikode District Congress Committee (DCC).
Mr. Gowda pointed out that though poor people taught the BJP a lesson in the general elections in 2024, and Narendra Modi had to form a coalition government, due to the Congress’ own failures and maybe because of the party’s overconfidence, it lost Haryana and Maharashtra State Assembly polls. He said that winning the Assembly elections in Kerala was thus important for the Congress at the national level.
“We have to win Kerala, otherwise even at the national level, the Congress will be in a difficult situation. If the Congress has to bounce back nationally, we have to win Kerala at any cost. It is a do-or-die battle. If you give a resounding victory in Kerala, nationally we will win the Parliament election,” he claimed. Mr. Gowda said that half the job would be done if the party was able to win the local body elections.
He pointed out that local bodies such as panchayats were not only giving power to the hands of the people, but were also opening the doors of politics to them. “That way, it is democratisation in two senses. Otherwise, it is becoming difficult for common people to enter politics,” he added. DCC president K. Praveenkumar and other senior leaders were present.
