Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy replied to 12-year-old Thomas Handley's letter of support. The Department for Education narrated the whole incident in a series of tweets.
War-torn country Ukraine has been reeling under a huge humanitarian crisis ever since Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of military strikes on February 24. Several citizens have been displaced and forced to flee to Poland and other countries. Amid the conflict, a number of people and organisations have reached out with a helping hand. Among them is a 12-year-old boy from the UK who decided to send a letter to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, along with relief supplies. The boy’s heartwarming gesture has won hearts online, including that of Zelenskyy’s.
The UK’s Department for Education took to Twitter to share a picture of Thomas Handley with the letter in his hand. The boy from Durham Trinity School even got a sweet reply from “the best president” and was overjoyed. In a series of tweets, the Department for Education narrated the whole incident.

So, what happened was that Thomas wrote to Volodymyr Zelenskyy after learning about the war. Along with the handwritten letter of support, he even included supplies donated by pupils, staff and parents. According to the Department for Education, the staff at the refugee centre in Poland found the letter and promised to forward it on.
